The term "endoscopy" was first used by the French urologist Antonin Jean Desormeaux in 1853; the first recorded endoscopic neurosurgical intervention in the literature is the choroidal plexus cauterization performed by urologist V. Darwin L"ESPINASSE min 1904 on two hydrocephalic newborns with a rigid pediatric cystoscope. There are types of endoscopes that are classified as rigid or flexible scopes. Rigid scopes, also called rod lens endoscopes, are more commonly used and are available in a variety of sizes and shaft lengths. Flexible endoscopes are based on flexible fiberoptic illumination. These scopes also have operative channels for instrumentation and are used in transcranial endoscopic procedures. The use of endoscopy in neurosurgery is increasing every day. First, neuroendoscopy was used to treat hydrocephalus; then it was used in the surgery of skull base tumors and spinal surgery. Currently, endoscopy is used in all areas of neurosurgery. In addition to the many advantages that endoscopy adds to neurosurgery, the difficulties in resolving complications are the biggest problem that we face in practical use. However, compared to other surgical methods, it has now begun to claim an ever larger place in the practice of neurosurgery. Anahtar Kelimeler : Endoscopy, Cranial, Aneurysm, Spinal, Ventriculostomy
