Ankara Üniversitesi, Tıp Fakültesi, Beyin ve Sinir Cerrahisi Anabilim Dalı, Ankara, Türkiye AIM: Endoscopic carpal tunnel decompression has recently become the standard surgical methods of treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome. We present the comparison of short and long term results of endoscopic and the open surgical procedure for the treatment of patients with carpal tunnel syndrome.

MATERIAL and METHODS: With diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome, 25 patient who underwent with endoscopic method and 25 patients who underwent with the standard surgical method are evaluated prospectively in Ankara University, Faculty of Medicine, Neurosurgery Clinic in 2009-2010. Cases were evaluated in terms of age, gender, side, results and complications. Patients are evaluated on first night, on first months and on sixths months after operation.

RESULTS: Both endoscopic and standard surgical decompression of the 50 patients with a total of 50 hand operated. Endoscopic method has surgical success rate in the all three period. Any infection or bleeding was observed. Standard procedure has 90% surgical success. In three patients superficial wound infection was observed which improved with oral antibiotic treatment.

CONCLUSION: Endoscopic carpal tunnel decompression method should be preferred because of its highly successful results and, less morbidity rates in the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome. Anahtar Kelimeler : Carpal tunnel, Endoscopic, Decompression
