In our country, there are more than 2000 neurosurgery specialists. This research aims to reveal potential deficiencies and problems by taking into consideration the conditions in which neurosurgeons work and the neurosurgical facilities available in hospitals in our country in order to provide better service to our patients.

MATERIAL and METHODS: All state hospitals belonging to the Ministry of Health were documented from the database of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Turkey. In addition, medical faculty hospitals of state universities were also included in the study. The questionnaires were completed by reaching the managers and neurosurgeons in the hospitals with actively working neurosurgery branches.

RESULTS: Responses to the questionnaire form were received from 113 centres across the country. 61 (54%) of these centres were state hospitals. With 25 (22.1%) centres, the highest participation was obtained from the centres in the Aegean Region. A total of 507 neurosurgeons worked in the centres participating in our survey. 483 neurosurgeons worked in hospitals affiliated to the ministry and 24 neurosurgeons worked in non-affiliated state universities.

CONCLUSION: The availability of necessary materials and equipment for neurosurgeons in Turkey, especially for performing emergency and basic neurosurgical operations, is noteworthy. The ability to collectively evaluate surgical instruments and facilities in neurosurgery operating rooms is important for health policies and hospital management to develop and improve current conditions.
