Objective: Typical, atypical and malignant meningioma specimens were stained with feulgen pararosanilin and AgNOR methods and image analyzing was made with SAMBA 4000 system. Some criteria about the meningioma cell morphology were investigated.

Materials and methods: 40 different primary meningioma tissue specimens were stained with feulgen pararozanilin and AgNOR staining system and two different slides for each specimen were maintened. Slides were evaluated under light microscope and the images were transferred to the SAMBA 4000 analysis system with the camera of the microscope. "Morphometrydensitometry-textural analysis" and "AgNOR" software of the system were used and 10 different fenotypical parameters of meningioma cell nüclei were investigated. These results were statistically evaluated and the data of meningioma cell morphology was maintained.

Results: As the malignancy tendeney of meningioma cells increased, the diameter and area of the nucleus increased, the nucleus was deformed, the DNA concentration and the chromatine content was increased. In malignant tumors AgNOR dots count and the total area of AgNOR dots were more than the other groups.

Conclusion: In the diagnosis of typical, atypical and malignant meningioma cells morphometricdensitometric analysis data of image analysis system has a very high accuracy. The data of AgNOR count and cell realization techniques have less accuracy rates but, the differentiation of both atypical and malignant cells by using AgNOR area data has a very high sensitivity.
