It constitutes 3% of all intracranial tumors and 6-9% of pediatric brain tumors. Craniopharyngiomas constitute 54% of suprasellar tumors in childhood. Its management has been a matter of debate for years due to the anatomical neighborhoods of the region where it emerges. Adjacency and invasion to critical neurovascular structures make total excision difficult and increase mortality and morbidity rates. Additionally, studies show that subtotal resection combined with radiotherapy has similar success rates in tumor control and recurrence. Treatment options aimed at preserving quality of life with a personalized and multidisciplinary treatment approach appear to be the current treatment strategy for craniopharyngiomas.
