Hacettepe Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Nöroşirürji Anabilim Dalı Optic Gliomas. The management of glioma of the optic nerve and/or chiasm remains a controversial subject in the literature. In this study. the authors report 33 cases of glioma of the optic nerve and/or chiasm which were diagnosed and surgically treated at the Department of Neurosurgery, Hacettepe University, Faculty of Medicine between the years of 1965-1988. Clinical findings, surgical procedures, irradiation and chemotherapy, and outcome are analyzed and compared with the literature.

The results obtained show that patients with disease limited to the optic nerve may be adequately managed by total or subtotal resection alone. and that in the more extensive lesions with chiasmal involvement biopsy and irradiation offer the best alternatives.
