The aim of this study is to report a totally excised tanycytic tumor located at the thoracolumbar region and to review the past literature. Tanycytes are ependymal cells lining the ventral part of the third ventricle. In the spinal cord, the tanycytes surround the central canal and radiate from the ependymoma of the central canal into the gray matter. Tanycytic ependymomas are a subtype of ependymomas defined as a new pathological entity by the WHO classification of 2000. The other subtypes of ependymomas are cellular, papillary and clear cell. Tanycytic ependymomas are considered to be grade II tumors with relatively better prognosis compared to other subtypes of ependymomas. Spinal tanycytic ependymoma is a rare entity. The mainstay of the treatment is total excision. No adjuvant treatment is needed if the tumor is totally excised. Anahtar Kelimeler : Ependymoma, Spinal cord, Tanycytic ependymoma
