1İstanbul Üniversitesi, Cerrahpaşa Tıp Fakültesi, Beyin ve Sinir Cerrahisi Anabilim Dalı, İstanbul, Türkiye Gliomas constitute approximately 60% of all pediatric brain tumors. Despite same or similar histological appearance pediatric intracranial gliomas can exhibit different clinical behavior due to molecular heterogeneity. Recent developments in molecular biology have made significant contributions to understanding of the tumor biology in pediatric gliomas. This review aims to summarize the current understanding of tumor biology in pediatric gliomas. Correlations between the molecular subset and clinical behavior in pediatric gliomas will be summarized.

Molecular characteristics will be discussed for pilocytic astrocytomas, pilomyxoid astrocytomas, pleomorphic xantoastrocytomas, subependymal giant cell astrocytomas, oligodendrogliomas, oligoastrocytomas, high grade asstrtoyctomas, pediatric glioblastomas, diffuse intrinsic pons gliomas, and gangliogliomas. In pediatric gliomas, molecular genetic markers provide valuable information on the tumor biology of these tumors. Anahtar Kelimeler : Pediatric, Glioma, Genetic
