1Marmara Üniversitesi, Tıp Fakültesi, Beyin ve Sinir Cerrahisi Anabilim Dalı, İstanbul, Türkiye Treatment of craniosynostosis has evolved in various ways by the adoption of various surgical techniques. Suturectomy (sinectomy) and calvarial reconstruction techniques are the main procedures. Although suturectomy has lost its popularity over time, the inclusion of endoscopy and helmet applications in the treatment has re-instated its use in recent years. With the help of this technique, which is especially used in monosuture craniosynostosis surgery, the surgical time, blood loss and hospital stay are decreased. Endoscopic surgery should be performed in the early months in order to benefit from the quick growing stage of the calvarium. The ideal time is 3 months. After surgery, and subsequent to the healing of the incision, application of the helmet begins and continues for six to twelve months. Endoscopic suturectomy with helmet application seems to be a safe and effective treatment modality, but long-term studies are still needed in order to prove its efficiency.
