Surgical techniques that protect the biomechanics and function of the cervical spine beside providing neurological improvement have come back into consideration after the long-term complications of fusion surgery, especially in the adjacent segments, were found. Surgical techniques that preserve cervical segmental motion should be preferred for suitable patients in order to prevent the unwanted effects of fusion surgery. These methods, which can be realized by means of today"s technological developments or which can be performed in a safer way, have various reasons for them to be preferred in addition to various surgical success rates.
