Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is an aggressive, malignant, and lethal brain tumor, resistant to all current forms of treatment. Despite all the treatment options, the median survival is less than 15 months. More effective targeted therapeutic regimens are therefore required. Glioblastoma multiforme Stem Cell (GBMSC) or Cancer stem cells (CSCs) determine the heterogenic biology and resistance to both radio- and chemotherapy, the aggressiveness and the treatment failure of these lesions. This review presents a summary of the present knowledge on GBMSC and the developing current treatment options with GBMSC-related mechanisms.
