An experimental model of spinal cord injury was designed using temporary Yaşargil aneurysm dips in Guinea pigs to assess the effects of methylprednisolone,a caldum channel blocker nimodipine and an opiate antagonist nalorphine. The spinal cords were then removed and a histopathological study was undertaken. The histopathological study involved the measurement of the liquefaction necrosis and a scoring system was developed based on it. The best results were observed in the nalorphine injected group;dosely followed by the methylprednisolone applied group. These results is a probable indication that nalorphine which is not used in such a study before may be a good alternative in spinal cord injury.
