In the pediatric population, approximately 5% and 8% of adults of brainstem tumors are located in the tectal plate. Because of the anatomically critical location, treatment options should be well evaluated. The main presenting complaint of patients with tectal plate glioma is the symptoms of increased intracranial pressure due to obstruction of the aqueduct of Slyvius. The primary goal of treatment in patients with tectal plate glioma is the management of hydrocephalus. Although the treatment options for the lesion itself are controversial, follow-up with clinical examination and serial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy or combined therapy are the treatment options.
