Traumatic spinal cord injuries are serious health problems when considering the personal, social and psychological effects; the loss of the workforce, and the financial results. Spinal cord injuries can lead to injury in several organs and systems besides the nervous system can cause loss of function. A wide variety of etiological and epidemiological data are presented throughout the world from economically, geographically and culturally different countries. The approach to and management of traumatic spinal cord injuries affect the mortality and morbidity rates. Multidisciplinary approaches may be required in the management of these injuries. Absolute harmony should be ensured as regards the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up processes between the trauma-related units and patient communication. Despite the improvements in treatment methods, a cure is usually not possible and death or permanent injury may be the result. It is important to determine the epidemiological and etiological data in preventing, evaluating and managing these injuries. Anahtar Kelimeler : Trauma, Spinal cord, Epidemiology
