1Selçuk Üniversitesi, Tıp Fakültesi, Beyin ve Sinir Cerrahisi Anabilim Dalı, Konya, Türkiye Dystonia is a group of painful disorders that can lead to loss of motor function and are likely to result in disability. It is the third most common movement disorder after Parkinson"s disease and essential tremor. Indications for deep brain stimulation in dystonia and appropriate patient selection are still an issue with no consensus. Since it was stated that patients with primary generalized dystonia had a better response to deep brain stimulation treatment in those with DYT-1 mutation, and better results were reported in secondary traditional dystonia with the pantothenate kinase mutation than in idiopathic primary dystonia or combined dystonia, the selection of patients referred to advanced centers for deep brain stimulation treatment started to be made according to the treatment prognosis. However, this practice is wrong. Deep brain stimulation treatment and its results are updated every day and an attempt is made to reach more patient groups. Today, not applying deep brain stimulation treatment has become an important and multidisciplinary decision just like applying it. Anahtar Kelimeler : DBS, Dystonia, Surgery, Thalamic stimulation
