1İstanbul Üniversitesi - Cerrahpaşa, Cerrahpaşa Tıp Fakültesi, Beyin ve Sinir Cerrahisi Anabilim Dalı, İstanbul, Türkiye Almost one third of all epilepsy patients are considered to be multi-drug resistant and are natural candidates for investigation to undergo epilepsy surgery. Currently, surgical resection and disconnection procedures are definitive treatment measures. However, neuromodulation procedures are alternative treatment options for those who are not suitable for definitive surgery. Although Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) has been studied as one of the neuromodulation procedures for many decades, the results are still far from comparable to those of definitive surgery. This review aims to discuss the mechanism of action and clinical use of DBS in drugresistant epilepsy patients.
