1Şişli Etfal Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, Beyin ve Sinir Cerrahisi Kliniği, İstanbul, Türkiye Electrical stimulation of peripheral nerves has been used in the treatment of pain since the 1960s. With the development of percutaneous stimulators and the refinement of application techniques, it has become a diverse neuromodulation technique used in the treatment of various types of pain such as craniofacial pain syndromes including occipital neuralgia, chronic migraine, trigeminal neuropathic pain and cluster headache as well as complex regional pain syndrome, postherpetic neuralgia, post-stroke pain and peripheral nerve injuries. With the increase in case series and randomized controlled clinical trials, its efficacy and indications are better understood. Peripheral nerve stimulation offers a minimally invasive and effective treatment option in patients with focal chronic pain complaints who have not benefited from interventional and medical treatments.
