1Pamukkale Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, Beyin ve Sinir Cerrahisi Anabilim Dalı, Denizli, Türkiye Endovascular interventions, which have been added to the medical literature from the beginning of the 1900s, are currently used by neurology, neurosurgery and radiology specialists. In the historical process, these treatments were mainly carried out by radiologists. Today, where minimally invasive interventions come to the fore in every surgical field, endovascular treatments constitute the minimally invasive branch of vascular surgery. Endovascular interventions have made a breakthrough in surgically inaccessible aneurysms, caroticocavernous/arteriovenous fistulas, and cases requiring a high level of expertise such as arteriovenous malformations. Many neurosurgeons also add endovascular treatments to their daily routines with clinical fellowship programs. The developments in this field are increasing like an avalanche, and many neurosurgeons now apply the treatments in our country. In this review, it is aimed to reveal the historical development process of endovascular interventions and the contribution of neurosurgeons to this process.
