Hydrocephalus is a condition with many causes, presentations, and also treatment options. It often occurs as a result of complex congenital anomalies or as a complication of prematurity. It is a lifelong condition and these patients are likely to need care throughout their lives. It results from the accumulation of CSF within the ventricular system of the brain and is always associated with obstruction of CSF flow, except for the possibility of overproduction of CSF due to a very rare tumor originating from the choroid plexus. The concept that "children are not just little adults" should be well known to pediatricians and pediatric neurosurgeons. Therefore, the approach to hydrocephalus in children must be different from adults. We present our detailed assessment and upto- date approach to this issue.
