1Ege Üniversitesi, Tıp Fakültesi, Beyin ve Sinir Cerrahisi Anabilim Dalı, İzmir, Türkiye Various pathologies can be seen in the pediatric spine, whether congenital, developmental or acquired. Pediatric spine pathologies show distinct differences from adult pathologies and their treatments are also special. Factors such as small anatomy and the presence of the spine that continues to grow in the pediatric age group, inadequacy of instruments specific to the pediatric age group, and inability to apply adult surgical techniques to children make surgical treatment of pediatric spine pathologies difficult. Creating fusion of the spine that has not completed its development causes much more important problems beyond growth retardation. The future of spinal surgery in children depends on the development of non-fusion techniques that allow growth and preserve motion. Spinal instrumentation techniques, which will be developed with new technologies, will be promising for the perfect treatment of pathologies of the pediatric spine that continues to grow.
