74 cases of pituitary adenomas operated at the Department of Neurosurgery, University of Ankara have been reviewed, and 27 of them whose clinical features and serological hormon tests were typically diagnostic, also underwent both hist.opathological and immunhist.ochemical studies. The hormon profiles revealed by the immunhistochemistry were compared with the serological hormon profiles. When the histological profiles of PRL, CH and ACTH have been investigated, it was found out than in the 26 of 27 (96.3%) cases the related hormon suggested by the clinical features and serological tests was also present in the histopathological material. It has been concluded that the identification of hormon reactivity by immunhistochemistry has an important prognonstic value if an incomplet operation, highly infiltrating type of tumor or reccurence is considered.
