Gata Askeri Tıp Fakültesi, Etlik, Ankara One of the most important cause of recurrent radicular pain is epidural fibrosis following laminectomy. Experimental Porous Polyethylene (Medpor-Porex Inc.,USA) laminoplasti has been performed in 25 adult Spraque Dawley rats following lumbar total laminectomy to reduce peridural fibrosis. Medpor has a high biocompatibility and good results in a lot of surgical procedure. All rats were sacrified two weeks later and dissected under the operating microscope. Peridural fibrosis has significantly reduced in Medpor laminoplasty group in comparison with control laminectomy group. Peridural fibrosis may occur due to migration of fibroblasts from paraspinal musculature which progress in laminectomy field. Peridural fibrosis affected badly to the result of surgery of lumbar disc hernia, so this condition should be prevented. These results suggest that Medpor laminoplasty may effectiveness on reducing the postlaminectomy peridural fibrosis. Anahtar Kelimeler : Laminoplasty, Medpor, peridural fibrosis
