In this study, we compared the effectiveness of silicon mesh and free fat grafts in preventing dural adhesions after laminectomy. In all groups, dense and adhesive fibrous tissue formed in the lumbosacral fascia and paravertebral muscles, moderate amount of new bone tissue formation was noted, complete interlaminar fusion was absent. When the findings of dissection were evaluated, there were significant differences in the silicon mesh group as compared to free fat graft, and control groups (p<0.05), but there was no significant differences between free fat greft and control groups (p>0.05). In the microscopic evaluation, there were no findings of infection or necrosis in the groups. When the thickness of the adhesion, and extention of fibrous tissue on dura mater was assessed, we found that there were significant differences between silicon mesh and control groups (p<0.05), but no significant differences between the silicon mesh and fat grafts group and free fat graft group with control group (p>0.05).
