CAROTID ENDARTERECTOMY: INDICATIONS, MONITORISATION, COMPLICATIONS AND SURGICAL TECHNIQUE

This widely used neurosurgical procedure should be performed with updated technical maneuvers, peroperative monitorization and within the scope of a team approach. This article aims to review the current perspectives regarding carotid endarterectomy. In the first section the historical development of carotid endarterectomy in the management of carotid artery disease is reviewed. Second part is dedicated for peroperative monitorization techniques. Third section reviews the complications of carotid endarterectomy. The fourth and last part gives a summary for operative technique of this procedure.
