Complications of ventriculoperitoneal shunts are reported in 24-47 % of cases. These include mechanical malfunction and infection, cerebrospinal fluid collection, shunt migration, and visceral perforation. Intestinal perforation, most commonly colonic, may be associated with meningitis and peritonitis. We present a case of colonic perforation and protrusion of ventnculoperitoneal shunt through the anus as a complication arising from shunt catheter. There were no peritonitis and meningitis in our patient. In these report, we discussed the mechanism of development of colonic perforation and preventive measures against this complication.
