Objective: Diffuse axonal injury (DAI), is one of the traumatic type brain injury due to motorcycle and car accidents. The condition which has high morbidity and mortality generally affects deep brain areas like basal ganglia, pons and corpus callosum. In this article we aimed to delineate the importance of the diffusion MR in early diagnosis of the DAI in a child who was hospitalized in our neurosurgery clinic after head trauma at early stage with neurological deficit.

Method: A child accepted to the University of Ankara, Department of Neurosurgery with a history of neurological deficit after fall and the diffusion MR have been helpful on diagnosis and follow up period , as radiologic diagnosis is usually hard on DAI because of initial and serial CT and MRI findings are normal.

Results: As one of the most important techniques in all functional imaging procedures, diffusion MR provides early diagnosis by imaging the lesion in a few minutes after injury

ConclusionThis treatment causing increased morbidity and mortality rates, especially in pediatric age groups This great advantage of the technique can contribute to the improvement of investigations about neuroprotective treatment in DAI Anahtar Kelimeler : Diffuse axonal injury, early diagnosis, diffusion MR, neuroprotective treatment
