Surgical Therapy for Medically Intractable Epilepsy There is a renewal of attention to the surgical therapy for medically intractable epilepsies. A number of reasons for this renewed interest will be explained later.

Cortical resection and callosotomy are the most popular types of surgical therapy. Although imaging techniques (such as PET = Positron Emission Tomography) have an important role in this subject, identification of a focus of origin of the seizures still depends on the electroencephalogram (EEG).

We present three patients with medically intractable epilepsy who were treated with surgical management.

Sleep EEG recordings were used to identify the epileptogenic focus. Eleetrocorticography (ECoG) were also performed during the operations. Patients benefited significantly from the operation. Anahtar Kelimeler : Epileptogenic focus, sleep EEG recordings, elcetrocorticography
