The popularity of artificial intelligence is increasing day by day and it will have a much more important place in clinical applications, diagnosis, treatment planning, and prognosis determination in the near future. It is thought that the next important technological revolution in neurosurgery will be the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning in diagnosis, treatment planning, prognosis, follow-up, and intraoperative monitoring. Automation systems can reduce possible medical errors and reduce costs when properly designed and produced with correct data. Although it is thought that automation will take its place primarily in non-invasive medical issues and through medical data first, it could play a role in operating room practice with the development of image processing and robots. The purpose of this review is to compile the potential risks and benefits of the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning in neurosurgery, to review the articles on imaging applications, and to present a summary of current practices.
