Ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunting is widely used for management of hydrocephalus. Various complications following ventriculoperitoneal shunting have been reported. The most common complications are shunt migration, infection, malfunction due to blockage, disconnection, and subdural hematoma. Intraabdominal complications are common. However, intraabdominal pseudocyst formation is rare and makes up 1 to 3% of all abdominal complications of ventriculoperitoneal shunts. In sporadic cases, the pseudocyst formation may be inside the hepatic capsule. In this article, we aim to present a 63-year-old female with VP shunt who presented with a hepatic pseudocyst one week after appendectomy and discuss the case in accordance with the literature regarding hepatic pseudocysts.
