1Adana Numune Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, Nöroşirürji Kliniği, Adana, Türkiye2Çukurova Üniversitesi, Tıp Fakültesi, Nöroşirürji Kliniği, Adana, Türkiye Tarsal tunnel syndrome is an entrapment neuropathy caused by extrinsic or intrinsic pressure on the posterior tibial nerve and its branches under the fl exor retinaculum. It is characterized by pain and a burning sensation at the foot sole and radiating under the toes. It generally occurs as a unilateral condition. Common etiological factors are lesions with mass-occupying character or those pressuring the nerve inside or outside the tunnel, foot and ankle deformities, systemic diseases, trauma, and pathologies of the nerve itself. Resting, immobilisation, nonsteroidal anti-infl ammatory drugs, steroid injections, and orthosis application if the foot posture is distorted; are suggested treatments. If there is no therapeutic response to conservative treatment, the posterior tibial nerve and its branches are released surgically. We present a 35-year-old female case with pes planus who suff ered from pain and paresthesia in the form of a burning sensation at the plantar surface and under the toes of both feet. Her electromyographical evaluation revealed bilateral tarsal tunnel syndrome and she was treated surgically by releasing the posterior tibial nerve and its branches.
