Myelomeningocele is an important anomaly that may indicate the necessity of emergency surgical intervention. There are a small number of studies on twins with NTD and the diff erence in incidence in comparison to single births is insignificant. Concordance is about 7% in monozygotic twins and below 4% in dizygotic twins. While risk factors such as genetic basis, folate deficiency, use of antiepileptic drugs, maternal diabetes or obesity have been determined in the epidemiology; there is often a multifactorial disease involving a subset of the aforementioned. In this article, we discuss a rare case of dizygotic twins with myelomeningocele, born to a mother with maternal diabetes and with no other risk factors whatsoever.
