¹İzmir,Türkiye Molecular biological studies on the disease biology of brain tumor have improved our understanding significantly. They have shown us that two tumors with identical morphological findings may exhibit different biological behavior and this has led to a revision of the World Health Organization (WHO) pathological brain tumor classification. This text will detail current changes in the classification of gliomas and meningiomas. Marked changes in the WHO classification as well as personalized medicine will also be covered. In the 2016 WHO classification of central nervous system tumors, the classification of gliomas has changed significantly. The classification of meningiomas has not changed dramatically, but our understanding of the tumor biology has improved significantly. Similar advances in our understanding on the molecular biology of gliomas have led to other modifications in the WHO classification. These changes have enabled personalized medicine approaches.
