¹Sağlık Bilimleri Üniversitesi, Gülhane Tıp Fakültesi, Beyin ve Sinir Cerrahisi Anabilim Dalı, Ankara, Türkiye Craniosynostosis, defined as early closure of the suture lines in the skull, is one of the areas of interest of pediatric neurosurgery. A multidisciplinary approach is required. Satisfactory results are obtained with early diagnosis and surgery. However, one of the surgical indications is increased intracranial pressure. The cause and physiopathology of this condition are still relatively unknown, with many publications suggesting that craniosynostosis increases intracranial pressure. Moreover, it was previously suggested that these cases should be operated as early as possible because increased intracranial pressure may cause mental and motor dysfunctions in the late period of life of these children. The presence of papiledema is one of the most important indicators of increased intracranial pressure. In this review, the relationship between different types of craniosynostosis and intracranial pressure will be presented in the light of the current literature.
