¹Cumhuriyet Üniversitesi, Tıp Fakültesi, Beyin ve Sinir Cerrahisi Anabilim Dalı, Sivas, Türkiye Risk factors for subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and risk factors for intracranial aneurysms are largely similar. When analyzing risk factors, taking into consideration whether these risk factors can be changed or not will be useful in terms of determining preventive approaches. These risk factors include genetic markers, biomarkers, and epidemiological factors. Among the epidemiologic factors; age, gender, hypertension and current smoking are the four independent risk factors for SAH. Since age and gender cannot be changed, it is essential for SAH to be prevented by avoiding hypertension and current smoking as preventable risk factors.
