²Medical Park Tarsus Hastanesi, Beyin ve Sinir Cerrahisi Kliniği, Mersin, Türkiye Internal carotid artery (ICA) aneurysms comprise 30-50% of all intracranial aneurysms, and posterior communicating artery (PcomA) aneurysms represent the largest group within these aneurysms. The risk of rupture is highest in PcomA and lowest in cavernous segment aneurysms. Like other aneurysms, ICA aneurysms typically present with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH); nevertheless, they may lead to a wide range of clinical manifestations such as visual loss, ophthalmoplegia, pituitary insufficiency, ischemic strokes and caroticocavernous fistula depending on aneurysm location, projection and size. In this review, the authors present a summary of the relevant literature, along with case illustrations, about general information regarding and clinical presentation of intracranial ICA aneurysms, which are classified based on the anatomical segments they originate from.
