Unlike other ischemic strokes, cerebral vasospasm can be clinically predicted, prevented and treated. The most dangerous complication following SAH used to considered as re-bleeding but its incidence and importance have decreased with the common use of early surgery. On the other hand, cerebral vasospasm has become the most dangerous complication of SAH by means of its mortality and morbidity. Therefore, the early recognition of cerebral vasospasm has utmost importance. Using preventive methods, close monitoring of the patients during the period of increased vasospasm risk after aneurysmal SAH, and starting aggressive treatment upon the slightest suspicion are the key to reducing vasospasm-related morbidity and mortality. In this review, we aimed to summarize the clinical course and current treatment options of cerebral vasospasm.
