1Ankara Numune Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, Beyin ve Sinir Cerrahisi Kliniği, Ankara, Türkiye Cervical discectomy and fusion is a frequent surgical approach in neurosurgical practice for cervical disc herniations. Surgical techniques that protect the biomechanics and function of the cervical spine beside providing neurological improvement have come back into consideration after the long-term complications of fusion surgery, especially in the adjacent segments, were found. Surgical techniques that preserve cervical segmental motion should be preferred for suitable patients in order to prevent the unwanted effects of fusion surgery. These methods, which can be realized by means of today"s technological developments or which can be performed in a safer way, have various reasons for them to be preferred in addition to various surgical success rates. In our paper, cervical foraminotomy techniques and percutaneous cervical interventions have been discussed as surgical techniques that protect disc integrity and function.
