Hacettepe Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Nöroşirürji Anabilim Dalı, Ankara
Temporal lobe epilepsies are characterized by simple focal seizures, complex
focal seizures and secondarily generalized seizures or combinations of these.
The commonest cause, in neurosurgical series is hippocampal sclerosis which
accounts for 65% of cases. Men and women are equally affected. Uni or bilateral
temporal spikes are the characteristics of temporal lobe epilepsies. Management
comprises AEDs and/or neurosurgical excision of the epileptogenic region.
