Patients mostly have complaints of leg pain, cramps and weakness getting worse with standing up and walking. It has degenerative and congenital types. The degenerative type starts with degeneration of the disc while congenital type pathophysiology is related with posterior spinal elements such as short pedicle malformation and premature fusions. At the end of these processes, neural elements and the spinal canal are compressed and the disease signs and symptoms start. Lumbar stenosis is an important morbidity cause and mostly the cause of spinal surgery in the elderly. As the patients" life expectancy increases, the prevalence rate of this disorder will also increase. We are still trying to better understand the pathophysiology and natural history of this process.
