Preoperatively, the surgeon may change the transparency of models developed in recent years to fully understand three-dimensional relationships between different areas of interest. This principle is called three-dimensional multimodal imaging. The use of threedimensional multimodal image integration has begun to be used as a basis for preoperative planning of epilepsy, cranioplasty, vascular lesions and intracranial lesions. Although multimodality image integration can be difficult, it can be applied in neurosurgical practice.
This review article will discuss improvements in the use of imaging software in neurosurgical practice. In particular, the use of threedimensional imaging and three-dimensional multimodal imaging in surgery of epilepsy, cranioplasty, intracranial vascular lesions and intracranial tumors will be discussed.
Three-dimensional reconstruction used in neurosurgical practice is as valuable as other modern developed scanning modilities such as intraoperative ultrasonography, ICG videoangiography, neuronavigation, intraoperative MRI and neuromonitoring. Although it has some limitations in its use, its successful application has been reported in recent studies.
