¹Erzincan Binali Yıldırım Üniversitesi, Mengücek Gazi Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, Erzincan, Türkiye Intraoperative computerized tomography has been widely used in order to verify residual mass lesion or hematoma during intracranial tumor operations, as well as for intraoperative navigational purposes since 1980. Besides other intraoperative techniques (magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasonography etc.), intraoperative computed tomography is still frequently used because of its certain advantages. The advantages of this technique include advanced imaging quality and convenience of use in the operating room. In addition, it is useful for obtaining adequate data regarding bony structures and it significantly shortens the operation time when compared to magnetic resonance imaging in patients who undergo intracranial tumor resection such as glioma resection. Besides these advantages, it still continues to be a crucial part of the intraoperative navigation system in both cranial and spinal cases.
