Subarachnoid hemorrhage, which is one of the most important disorders of neurosurgical practice, is mostly caused by rupture of
intracranial aneurysms. One of the most important complications waiting for these patients in the days following the subarachnoid
hemorrhage is vasospasm. Although the pathogenesis of vasospasm is not precisely determined, it is known that the cause is
the reaction of the vessel wall to the products of the destruction of the blood in the subarachnoid space and the treatment takes
this into account. Another method in the treatment of vasospasm, which is the cause of late neurological deficits, is the drainage
of the bloody cerebrospinal fluid using various techniques. Although this method is still not well supported by the evidence, it is
routinely performed by many clinics. This review discusses the contribution of cerebrospinal fluid drainage to the improvement of
the vasospasm clinical picture.
