¹Düzce Üniversitesi, Tıp Fakültesi, Nöroşirürji Anabilim Dalı, Düzce, Türkiye Infratentorial arteriovenous malformations are rare congenital vascular lesions that represent 7-15% of all intracranial arteriovenous malformations. Although less frequent than supratentorial arteriovenous malformations, they cause higher rupture, morbidity, and mortality rates. It was shown that the first hemorrhage, deep localization of the arteriovenous malformation (in the posterior fossa) and the presence of deep venous drainage were among the factors that increase the bleeding risk of arteriovenous malformation. Arteriovenous malformations located in the posterior fossa are reported to be silent since they do not cause any neurological findings other than hemorrhage and they are only diagnosed when bleeding. Studies on why hemorrhage occurs more frequently state that age, the less frequent incidence of seizures, hemodynamic factors in the posterior fossa and increased incidence of prenidal aneurysms in infratentorial arteriovenous malformations are effective. However, it is stated that the studies on this subject is still few in number and may be insufficient.
