¹SBÜ Bursa Yüksek İhtisas Eğitim Araştırma Hastanesi, Beyin ve Sinir Cerrahisi Kliniği, Bursa, Türkiye Caroticocavernous fistulas are abnormal arteriovenous anastomoses between the internal carotid artery and cavernous sinuses. Caroticocavernous fistulas present in two different clinical forms as direct and indirect fistulas. Direct or high-flow caroticocavernous fistulas occur between the internal carotid artery and cavernous sinus whereas there are abnormal connections between the branches of the internal and external carotid arteries in indirect or low-flow fistulas. Seventy-five percent of the cases are traumatic. When a direct CCF is confirmed, the first-line treatment is endovascular intervention, which may be accomplished using detachable balloons, coils, liquid embolic agents, or a combination of these tools. Modern endovascular techniques offer the ability to successfully treat CCFs with low morbidity and virtually no mortality.
