When a glioblastoma crosses the corpus callosum, it causes a butterfly image which is called a "butterfly glioblastoma (bGBM)". bGBMs account for approximately 3% of all glioblastomas. The historical approaches to butterfly glioblastomas consist of the palliative approach, biopsy and palliative approach, and biopsy and adjuvant chemotherapy options. However, due to the development of both surgical techniques and surgical aids and tools, we see that more aggressive surgical resections are now being used in the surgical management of bGBM. When the data obtained from the studies are interpreted, it is seen that more aggressive resections with appropriate patient selection have significant effects on survival, without additional complications. Another advantage of aggressive resection is the ability to obtain more tissue, especially for use in advanced molecular studies.
