Various lesions originating from these tissues can be seen at the junction. The approach to these lesions is critical and challenging due to the complex anatomy and neurovascular structures of the region. The basic farlateral approach is a method used especially for craniocervical junction lesions located anterior and anterolaterally. Knowing the anatomy of the region will provide a necessary and sufficient surgical view for all lesions in this region. In this paper, all steps from muscle dissection to the intradural stage for the basic farlateral approach are shown with visuals.
