Minimally Invasive Percutaneous Instrumentation for Spine Fractures

The treatment of vertebral fractures varies according to the type of fracture, patient"s neurological status, patient"s physical condition,
stability of the fracture, and the presence of additional pathologies to the existing fracture. Traditional methods that patients requiring
surgical treatment are include large surgical incisions, large muscle stripping-retraction, and are associated with long operation time
and increased blood loss. Minimally invasive methods are increasing their popularity day by day in all surgical branches. In spinal
surgery; discectomy, interbady fusion, anterior-posterior instrumentation, vertebro-kyphoplasty can be performed with minimally
invasive methods. The advantages of this method compared to traditional methods are include small incision, preservation of
muscles, less surgical time, less blood loss, and less post-operative pain. The disadvantages are that it requires surgical experience,
increased radiation exposure and limited fusion possibilities.
