Sacrum Fractures and Spinopelvic Instability
1Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat Üniversitesi, Tıp Fakültesi, Beyin ve Sinir Cerrahisi Anabilim Dalı, Antalya, Türkiye
Biomechanically, the sacrum is an osseous structure that transfers load from the spinal column, which is located at the center of
the strength components of the body, to the pelvis. The axial force in the spine is located in front of the sacroiliac joint and it forms
a forward rotational force centered on the second sacral vertebra. As traumas that are severe enough to cause a fracture in the
sacrum may also typically cause serious injuries in the other parts of the body, their diagnosis may be overlooked, causing delays
in the treatment needed by patients. Although an individual treatment plan is required for each patient, it is essential to differentiate
whether the patient is stabile or unstable. There are a variety of conservative and surgical treatment options in the treatment
of sacrum fractures. The present study aimed to attract attention to sacrum fractures and discuss the diagnosis and treatment
methods for patients in the light of the literature.
