1Ankara Şehir Hastanesi, Beyin ve Sinir Cerrahisi Kliniği, Ankara, Türkiye Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive or non-convulsive technique that uses electromagnetic induction to stimulate the cerebral cortex. It is known that when TMS was administered as repetitive stimuli (rTMS), it has the potential to restore impaired neuronal functioning. The efficacy of rTMS is being investigated for many indications, first of all in psychiatric and neurological diseases. The clinical use of rTMS has been approved, especially in the treatment of resistant depression and obsessive compulsive disorder. However, its area of usage is expanding in many diseases such as chronic pain, movement disorders, epilepsy and rehabilitation of motor strokes. Among the parameters that determine rTMS effectiveness, the cortical target and the stimulation protocol applied are of primary importance. In this article, it was intended to present evidence-based information about rTMS efficacy by matching rTMS targets and protocols that have been researched according to specific clinical indications.
