Cavernous angiomas or cavernomas are congenital vascular lesions among vascular malformations of the brain tumors. With the advent of MRI (=Magnetic Resonance Imaging), an increasing number of cavernous angiomas have been diagnosed in recent years. Due to the recurrent hemorrhages and space occupying effects of these rare lesions, neurosurgical excision is indicated.

With the application of CT and MRI, nine consecutive cavernous angioma cases were diagnosed and treated surgically in our institution. All cases were discussed. with the aid of the literature, in an effort to determine the general features of the cavernomas, particularly from the surgical point of view. Among these cases, with reference to the clinical and radiological findings of subarachoid and intraparanchymatose hemorrhage, one temporal, two frontal, and one brain stem located cavernomas were also presented with their surgical results and tissueculture studies invitro.
